…Scores of youths declared Wanted by Police
…Anarchy, houses set ablaze in Ahoada and other communities
The raging political tussle in Rivers state between the incumbent Governor,Sir Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike fueled by the foiled impeachment process against the sitting Governor, by some members of the Rivers State House of Assembly reportedly loyal to former Governor Wike has continued to pose serious security threats to the people of Rivers State, Niger Delta region and indeed the nation at large.
Unfolding events reveal that those who were instrumental to leaking information of the said impeachment plot against Fubara scheduled to have been executed on October 30, 2023 are currently on the run for safety of their lives including that of their families.
Investigation revealed that some of the indigenes allegedly implicated in the political conspiracy include;Agada Princewil,
Tamunonengieyeofori Ikiriye, Boniface Oporoma,Sylvia Emekana,Peters Agieapoti and others who are presently at large.
Our reporter gathered that the Nigeria Police,Rivers state command have placed the running suspects on the ‘wanted List’ for political state reasons. Reports also showed that number of houses in Egbeda Community in Emohua Local Government Area, Ahoada Community and Buguma in
Asari Toru LGA all in Rivers State, including the family home of Agada were set ablaze. The home of Tamunonengieyeofori Ikiriye was also set ablaze, razed to the ground on the Monday 22nd April 2024, with their family whereabout not known since the incident.
It will be recalled that Gov. Fubara, before his election as Governor of River State, was the Accountant General of the State during the administration of the former Governor Wike between 2015 – 2023 and they had cordial relationship similar to that of political father and son which necessitated the nomination of Fubara as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the Rivers State Governorship election in 2023.
It is rumoured that the former Governor Wike single handedly nominated Gov. Fubara as the standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and installed him as Governor of the state against all odds.
Upon the emergence and swearing in of Governor Fubara as Governor of the State, it was alleged that the former Gov. Wike had a pact with the sitting Governor Fubara.
It was further alleged that Fubara reached an understanding with Wike ,to make a monthly remittance of over Two billion Naira to to him from the State allocation, per month.
“The sitting Governor having paid this sum for nearly six months could no longer remit same owing to the impact of the remittance on the state economy, his reneging on this pact with the former Governor became Fubara’s political albatross and genesis of the face off now brewing and festering in the oil rich state”, a Source noted.
The former governor who is currently the Federal Capital Territory,FCT Minister is said to be highly embittered as he feels betrayed by the incumbent Governor who he claims to have, single handedly made.
Further investigations show that Wike, the former Governor nominated the entire commissioners , members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, as well as key cabinet members of the Rivers State Executive Council under the administration of Gov. Fubara.
All of these government structures being controlled by the former Governor without the input of the incumbent Governor, are the ones being used to haunt and destabilize Gov Fubara’s government in Rivers State, presently.
Report also has it that an earlier approach by Fubara to his predecessor to allow him dissolve the Local Government Council chairmen, whose term had elapsed and then conduct fresh election to elect new Council chairmen was also refused by Wike, then the bubble was said to have bursted.
It was revealed that the former Governor objected to this and resisted every effort to change his men at the helm of affairs at the various Local Government Councils of the state. Reports indicate that the former Governor’s insistence on sustaining the existing political structure he had already built did not go down well with Fubara, his successor. The concerted efforts by the new governor, Fubara to ensure that Local Government elections were conducted appeared to have unsettled the former Governor,
In the build up Wike was alleged to have utilized his loyalists in the Rivers State House of Assembly to plan the failed attempt to impeach Fubara, the incumbent Governor.
Since the beginning of the crisis scores of youths of Rivers state are reported have been arrested by the security operatives, with many others declared missing by their family members, without any trace as at Press time.
